The ceramic plates are of good quality and known locally but as well internationally. People from Bangladesh took it for granted and thought since it was produced locally, it might not be that good since foreign made products are always better.

Life of Monno

Harunur Rashid Khan Monno, the person who founded the company in 1980 was a student of Chartered Accountancy. He joined Adamjee Company in the accounts department. Adamjee group of companies, founded by Haji Dawood and is valued at billions of dollars.

Adamjee is group of companies founded by Sir Haji Adamjee Dawood who was from Gujrat. The Adamjee Jutemills he founded in 1950, was established in Naryanganj, Bangladesh. (Then East Pakistan).

In words of Monno,he went to meet Sir Adamjee and though being his employee told him, that he wants to do business with his boss.

“After a few hours of waiting in the lobby, he finally called me in, to inquire about my reason to meet with him. I was extremely nervous but decided to come forth with the truth. I frankly told him that I wanted to do business.”

Most people pay their attention to Dinnerware like Plates. The brand associated with plates/cookery was at a time in Bangladesh all foreign brands. The brands mostly were:

·         Pyrex

·         Arcopal

In 1984, a brand entered Bangladeshi scene for the local market. That was Monno Ceramics.

We tend to always think that if a brand is foreign: from UK, USA or Japan, it has to be good and others brands are not even worth mentioning. This is an old concept of the 1970s and 80’s. The World has moved on.

Monno Ceramics

Monno Ceramics was Bangladeshi answer to Pyrex and Arcopal.Since these were expensive and not available locally. This was started off in 1981 in Bangladesh. But in 1984, the company was formally started.

Monno Ceramics became so popular that in the 1980s it was common household name.

Monno Ceramic has a dinner set which was most prized.
